Dr. Judye Hess is a licensed psychologist who came from a very psychological family. Her father, Dr.Harry Gershman was a psychoanalyst in New York City and her sister, Dr. Marlene Winter, is currently is a psychologist on Long Island. Judye became interested in psychology by age 10, watching films and discussions with her father, and knew right away that this is what her major would be in psychology. She went on to get her PhD in psychology from the University of Rhode Island in 1975, and got her license in California a year later.

In taking a psychology class, she realized that her real talent and interest lay in interpersonal communication. In 1984, she began teaching at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where she taught Couples Therapy, Family Dynamics and Group Process for over 30 years. She wrote a book in 2008 titled, “Core Focused Family Therapy: Moving from Chaos to Clarity” (Idyll Arbor Inc.). which she used as a textbook for the classes she taught in Family Therpay.
