She brings a unique perspective to her work, incorporating 20 years of studying both eastern and western modalities and philosophies. She currently practices psychotherapy, energywork, and bodywork in Oak Park, IL and works primarily with adolescents and adults in her private practice. She has worked in a variety of settings including; state agencies, community mental health, wellness centers, therapeutic day school, Oak Park and River Forest High School, and private practice with a range of populations including children, adolescents, adults and families encompassing a range of issues: trauma, anxiety, depression, maternal health, chronic pain, parenting issues, stress management and life transitions.
Shortly after receiving her Masters in Social Work from the University of Chicago, Kristin became introduced to eastern philosophies and practices through yoga in New Mexico in 1994. Very early into this discovery, she experienced noticeable shifts in her body’s daily responses to life’s stressors. Kristin was introduced to shiatsu in 1997. She had struggled with digestive and sleep issues for most of her life up until that point. She credits the healing power of shiatsu and yoga to being instrumental in healing her digestive and insomnia issues.
While living in California, Kristin was introduced to Reiki, which continued to support her own healing process. This opened the door to further learning and diving into the profound healing benefits of Reiki. She eventually became a Reiki Master/Teacher of the Usui lineage. As she explored more about the body’s response to traumas and stresses she became more interested and invested in the body mind spirit connection, realizing the talking piece of releasing old experiences, patterns and emotions is important, though in many cases, not enough. As she embraced this idea of our body holding onto our experiences, both positive and challenging or traumatic, she realized the body and spirit needed equal, if not more, support in releasing these negative patterns that may be holding us back from being our best selves physically, emotionally and spiritually. As an additional support to the mind body connection, Kristin completed a 3 year intensive training in Somatic Experiencing, a body-centered approach to trauma resolution. Kristin is a Training Assistant for Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels of Somatic Experiencing, (SE). She is also a session provider and consultant for Somatic Experiencing students. Kristin completed training in Kathy Kain’s post Advanced Somatic Experiencing Touch Skills Training. She is also a practitioner of Diane Poole Heller’s DARe work (Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experience) which utilizes somatic and relational healing techniques to shift the patterns of early attachment wounds that influence adult relationships.
